During the show, Hunt asked Paladino how to β€œrouse the population” and get people thinking about change.

Paladino replied: β€œI was thinking the other day about somebody had mentioned on the radio Adolf Hitler and how he aroused the crowds. And he would get up there screaming these epithets and these people were just β€” they were hypnotized by him. That's, I guess, I guess that's the kind of leader we need today. We need somebody inspirational. We need somebody that is a doer, has been there and done it.”

It's even worse in long form. "We need someone whose charisma comes from screaming epithets so well that the audience gets boners".

Hannah arendt says Mussolini was the first leader to replace doctrine and policy with inspired action alone. Mussolini himself declared the people need not a doctrine, but "the will of a duce."

"No policy, no rationality" is darning enough. Redditors and Tweeters seem to need to latch on to 'fascist' or 'nazi' because they are convenient and millennials require overstatement.

For me, "governing like a crazy b-word throwing all your shit on the lawn" is more fundamentally undesirable.
