When I was in Greece you had to put potty paper in a little bin. I think it's quite common in the 3rd world

I worked on a tanker where we had this cadet from Puerto Rico who was doing that, he'd somehow got it into his head that you couldn't flush to down the ships pottys. The steward flipped out about it and the Captain had to explain to this r-slur that yes, our pottys could indeed handle to and he must flush it or get sent the frick home.
