important information alert: cancelling roe v wade doesn't mean abortion is illegal

the only thing it means is that states get to decide if and when abortion is illegal. this actually protects liberals too because they cannot be stopped legally from create their state size gay communist utopia either anymore.

They'll get it passed at the federal level because they think a fetus is a person? Because they think allowing abortion to happen anywhere is tantamount to allowing children to be murdered?

And there's nothing the prevent that constitutionally.

yeah but the current supreme court judgement just said that abortion is not a federal issue its a state rights issue so they cannot pass it federally no?

It's not a federal issue because there's no federal law about it on the books. Congress can still make a law in the future. Just like if the Dems get power they could pass a law ensuring the rights that Roe v. Wade gave before. And if the Repubs get control they're free to pass a federal ban. All the SCOTUS said was there's nothing in the constitution that protects the right to abortion.

oh I see. That makes sense. So at the congress level it can go either way.

Yeah, nothing is codified nationally, which is why states can decide for themselves. If something is passed federally, then states have follow suit (theoretically).

neat. So the current house can just try to pass the law in favor of abortions. Then it all balances out.

It won't pass the Senate though, because of the filibuster. The House can do whatever it wants, but it won't become law.

so the same applies to republicans

except Republicans will likely take the house and senate in November, and will just get rid of the filibuster because they're not spineless.
