No, there are not, one of the things that I most loved about Portugal as a Brazilian is that the place is indeed safe, being able to walk on the streets late at night with my phone out felt fricking unreal, as if I was in a simulation or something, since that is unheard of in dangerous countries like Brazil and I grew up with that mentality.

Do you ever get flashbacks when you see two people on a scooter drive by?

Yes, here even street vendors approaching your car window to sell bootleg shit are viewed with suspicion and fear.
Ironically one of these sketchy street vendors turned out to be a Poortuguese expat himsef

Also unheard of in dangerous cities like Portland and San Francisco. Portugal sounds so much better than any of these shitholes

Well, much like the US, Brazil is an enormous place with 212 million folx, and each state almost feels like a different country, my country is indeed a shithole but there are some safe places and places that are worse than the others, SΓ£o Paulo is the safest state of all, and contrary to the public perception, Rio de Janeiro doesn't even comes close to being the most violent state despite its infamy for favelas, gangs, shootouts, et al, the most dangerous states are all in the deserted redneck areas of the north, places like SΓ£o Paulo and Minas Gerais feel way safer than Portland and Chicago for sure.
