Lei Feng was a People's Liberation Army truck driver who died age 22 when a truck he was directing backed into a telegraph pole and killed him. He had lived a selfless life and spent his time helping his fellow soldiers, writing about his love of the Revolution and Chairman Mao, and getting his parents to pay for expensive photo sessions in which he posed with a Type 50 PPsh SMG (which he had no business carrying as he was a truck driver) and his trademark enormous hat. You can see pictures of him all over China with patriotic slogans extolling his virtues and telling us to be more like him. Of course, there have been attempts to make movies of him but they're never successful as 2.5 hours of a guy in a big hat ironing all the shirts isn't much fun. In fact, one film in 2013 failed to sell a single ticket in Nanjing and government workers were ordered to take their families to the cinema to see it.
Anyway, now you know... and knowing's half the battle.
