[Effort Post] Open invitation to ex-Dramanaut turned Reddit chadmin/mod-spanker u/kethryvis to join our humble community

After seeing the old sub in such a sad state today I decided to look into the sabre-rattling admin /u/kethryvis to see what her deal was, and holy shit was there a lot to work with. She is the one who spanks.

I was originally going to sneed about some of the funny shit I found out like the fact that she's a real woman in her late 40's, single w/cats (childfree), basically lived with her parents until she was nearly 30, and identified at some point a witch (wiccan). However the more I dug up, the more interesting/special-ed it got. She was a child of the eeeearly internet and eventually got the legitimate (bardfinn-esque) credentials that ultimately led to her to become a paid internet janitor. It took her like 15 years, but I'll be darned because she actually did it and didn't even have to beat her ex-wife or kid.

Not even joking, she literally got a masters degree (see: lib arts) in the early half of the decade and did her thesis on the internet drama surrounding LiveJournal's ownership, the mass bannings of it's userbase, and predicted it's collapse.

This is in part due to the fact that she herself dedicated many years to the site and posted lots of cringe shit, as we all did in the early days of the internet I assume. She even participated in sitewide "protests" against the grooming attempts made by the corporate daddies to monetize that whole neurodivergent community.

So after finding her thesis online I'd intended to skim it over, but it was actually pretty good and I ended up reading most of it, like on the level of Snallyposts, or a /r/hobbydrama post on bath salts.

Anyway, it became abundantly clear through her internet-rant-turned-thesis that she was an avid drama enjoyer herself.

Given that she's the Senior Community Manager at reddit or something, her thesis both answers a lot of questions about the admins schizoid behavior but also left me with more questions. Best that I can tell it's like she's been trying to overlay the guidelines she created herself with the illogical ones handed down from /u/spez and co. Here's an excerpt to illustrate the irony:

"Relationships between online communities and their corporate counterparts are often uncertain, and this influences the way these relationships form and function. Uncertainty breeds distrust, which can be a death knell for any community, online or offline. Companies that describe their users as communities must understand what that term entails before engaging it, or they may find themselves with a user grouping that has a different view of the relationship than the company does. Users also must understand what being a community entails, and be able to use their commitment to further relations with the organization who owns their site, instead of using that power to damage any hope of cooperation.

Partnerships are key for successful relations, and while they take more work than a typical consumer relationship, they provide benefits well beyond their inconvenience. Allowing mistrust to breed affects relationships for years to come, and affects new users coming to the site as they learn history from those already there, as well as affecting the ways which the company attempts to interface with its users. Creating a partnership allows all stakeholders to have a level playing field, similar expectations, more automatic buy-in to proposals and new features, as well as the social capital and credibility on all sides to ask for concessions as the need arises."

You'll have to dig it up yourself if you want to read the whole thing. I'm day drunk btw.

Title is self-evident. Admin /u/kethryvis you seem alright. You should abandon the dark side and get back to your drama roots and work for @Aevann or something. I don't know if he can pay you but I'll let you borrow my cat and forgive you for trying to frick over all of our jannies and community. :)

From one day ago:

I guess the one confirmed cool Charmin no longer works for Reddit. Of course.
