They act like cab drivers who followed the rules were had it any better than current Uber drivers. The only way cabbies made any money was by ripping off their customers, which they could do with impunity because you had no other options.
In Vegas there's a route taxis take from the airport that typically makes you pay 3x what you would then if they just took you straight to the strip the normal way
In New Orleans, if they hadnβt made their dues to company for the night they would pick up a drunk person and drive circles around the city until the bill would get absolutely outrageous.
Once they made their dues they would turn off the meter and charge $10 a head to go a few miles
People who defend taxis are too young to remember how shitty they were. Any time you got in one you knew you were going to get ripped off. They regularly wouldnβt accept my account that I had step up cause I wouldnβt ever carry cash, they never had a working credit card machine, they would often turn the meter off, they would charge per head, and thatβs only in the rare cases they actually showed up.
