Chancellor Scholz rules out a change of course on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the Baltic Sea. Even if the energy shortage worsens in the autumn, the pipeline will remain out of operation, stressed a government spokesman in Berlin. There are tough months ahead, but the German government supports Ukraine and stands by the sanctions against Russia.

>As it became known on Monday, the German gas storage facilities were filled on Friday despite the significantly reduced delivery volumes from Russia as strongly as in almost two months.

Meanwhile, several federal states are pushing for more co-determination in the plans of the Federal Network Agency for a possible gas shortage. Such a situation has considerable economic and social implications, Hamburg's First Mayor Tschentscher told Die Welt. The decision on rationing could therefore not be left to a federal authority alone. The knowledge of the countries and the regional gas network operators is of great importance. Government representatives from Berlin and Saarland expressed similar views.
