How did the republican party go from the pro-business, small government, and individual freedom party it was into the shitty proto-fascist and cultural war party that it is today?

It's weird seeing the republicans no longer solely being the party of big business as we've seen since the rise of trump. I'd say it was caused by the Tea Party movement of the early 2010's and the implosion of neocon politics. The old school libertarian republican types are dying off and replaced with something that is unironically bad for our country, and it seems like Ron DeSantis will be a continuation of that. Honestly, I can see the GOP going full nazbol in the near future just because of contrarianism against the Democratic neoliberal socially liberal fiscally conservative outlook. I want to hear what you "intellectuals" think as we slowly see the pendulum swinging towards the Democratic party as the party of big business.

Both parties are captured by capital. Reagan said he wanted small government, yet the deficit darn near tripled during his eight years. Even though he slashed welfare and taxes, he kept pumping more into the MIC, the war on drugs, and the CIA's cold war frickery in latin America.

Rightoids claim to love freedom, but what does a tyrannical state require? Soldiers, surveillance, and prisons, exactly the things Republicans like daddy Reagan throw fortunes in to. Of course nowadays the Democratic center is the same.

"Freedom" to rightoids has always been code for let the wealthy keep it all. Evidently this just occured to you.
