Weekly Mass Discussion Thread #12

!catholics !christians sorry this is late, my travel plans were interfered with greatly. Today is the Solemnity of Christ the King!

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

First Reading

Thus says the Lord GOD:

I myself will look after and tend my sheep.

As a shepherd tends his flock

when he finds himself among his scattered sheep,

so will I tend my sheep.

I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered

when it was cloudy and dark.

I myself will pasture my sheep;

I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD.

The lost I will seek out,

the strayed I will bring back,

the injured I will bind up,

the sick I will heal,

but the sleek and the strong I will destroy,

shepherding them rightly.

As for you, my sheep, says the Lord GOD,

I will judge between one sheep and another,

between rams and goats.

-Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17

Responsorial Psalm

R. (1) The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

In verdant pastures he gives me repose.

R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Beside restful waters he leads me;

he refreshes my soul.

He guides me in right paths

for his name's sake.

R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

You spread the table before me

in the sight of my foes;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Only goodness and kindness follow me

all the days of my life;

and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD

for years to come.

R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

-Psalms 23:1-3, 5-6

Second Reading

Brothers and sisters:

Christ has been raised from the dead,

the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

For since death came through man,

the resurrection of the dead came also through man.

For just as in Adam all die,

so too in Christ shall all be brought to life,

but each one in proper order:

Christ the firstfruits;

then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ;

then comes the end,

when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father,

when he has destroyed every sovereignty

and every authority and power.

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

When everything is subjected to him,

then the Son himself will also be subjected

to the one who subjected everything to him,

so that God may be all in all.

-1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28

Gospel

Jesus said to his disciples:

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory,

and all the angels with him,

he will sit upon his glorious throne,

and all the nations will be assembled before him.

And he will separate them one from another,

as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Then the king will say to those on his right,

'Come, you who are blessed by my Father.

Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

For I was hungry and you gave me food,

I was thirsty and you gave me drink,

a stranger and you welcomed me,

naked and you clothed me,

ill and you cared for me,

in prison and you visited me.'

Then the righteous will answer him and say,

'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,

or thirsty and give you drink?

When did we see you a stranger and welcome you,

or naked and clothe you?

When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'

And the king will say to them in reply,

'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did

for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Then he will say to those on his left,

'Depart from me, you accursed,

into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave me no food,

I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

a stranger and you gave me no welcome,

naked and you gave me no clothing,

ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'

Then they will answer and say,

'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty

or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison,

and not minister to your needs?'

He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you,

what you did not do for one of these least ones,

you did not do for me.'

And these will go off to eternal punishment,

but the righteous to eternal life."

-Matthew 25:31-46

For those of you who know/care, the current temporal drama accompanying the millennia of spiritual warfare undertaken by the Church Militant :marseydaemongenocide: has been regarding (mostly) European bishops seeking to change Church moral teaching on homosexual unions, the ability of women to become priests, and perceived persecution of the radical Traditionalists conducting Mass in Latin. Tradicals are known for spending all their time online criticizing the 1960s Vatican II Council and the post-conciliar Papacies, our beloved :marseyandjesus: Pope Francis in particular.

This Mad Rad Trad attention has been focused of late on the happenings of the German Synodal Path, where a majority of German bishops have engaged in the direction of outright schism. They desire to establish a permanent council of mixed laity and consecrated to lead the Church, effectively abolishing the hierarchy. Additionally, for years now, individual bishops and priests in Western Europe have been openly blessing gay unions in flagrantly heretical fashion. To date, the Pope has largely kept discussions of these happenings internal and avoided taking actions that could/would lead to the Church losing communion with many thousands of followers, hundreds of priests in an area of the world with few new vocations, and millions or billions in real estate of priceless, timeless Churches.

This week, the Pope has once again reaffirmed Orthodox teaching and chastised the blasphemous bishops and heretical harpies assaulting Holy Mother Church. Some highlights:

>This committee aims to set up a consultative and decision-making body. However, as outlined in the corresponding resolution, its proposed structure is not in alignment with the sacramental structure of the Catholic Church. Consequently, its formation was forbidden by the Holy See in a letter dated Jan. 16, 2023, which received my specific endorsement.

>In my “Letter to the Pilgrim People of God in Germany,” I sought not to find “salvation” in constantly evolving committees, nor to persist in self-absorbed dialogues rehashing the same themes. Rather, I aimed to reemphasize the importance of prayer, penance, and adoration. I urged an openness and a call to action to engage with our brothers and sisters, especially those found at the thresholds of our church doors, in the streets, within prisons, hospitals, public squares, and cities (as mentioned in section 8). I firmly believe that in these places, the Lord will guide us.

Link to the previous letter: LETTER OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS TO THE PILGRIM PEOPLE ... https://plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/LETTER-OF-THE-HOLY-FATHER-FRANCIS-to-Church-in-Germany.pdf

"I sought not to find “salvation” in constantly evolving committees, nor to persist in self-absorbed dialogues rehashing the same themes" really sums up Pope Francis's handling of both the RadsTrads and the heretics neatly. As much as I'm concerned about the direction of the world and the Church, these insufferable and divisive fundies expend all their energy into goading the Pope to repeat himself ad nauseam and view anything less than immediate excommunication as evidence that the Pope will change doctrine (if Catholicism is true, this is literally impossible as moral teaching is protected by the Holy Spirit) or at minimum sympathizes with the progressives.

TLDR: :marseycrusade: still Catholic, opposes change in teaching while promoting change in handling of hotbutton issues. :marseymothermary: and :marseyandjesus: love you all very much. Pray for me, and pray for the Church.

The first article of the recently passed “Law that Recognizes Rights of the Conceived,” or Law 785, establishes the unborn as a subject of rights with full status as a human person. The second article guarantees the conceived child's distinct genetic identity, unique and unrepeatable, independent of the mother and endowed with its own personality.

Article 3 of the new law recognizes the rights to life, health, moral, mental and physical integrity, identity, free development, well-being, and other rights that benefit the unborn human being.

As for the current Civil Code, Article 1 makes a distinction between the conceived child and human person by establishing that “the human person is a subject of law from birth” and thus leaves room for arguing “but not from conception.”

As amended, the Civil Code states: “Human life begins with conception. The human person is a subject of law from his conception. The Peruvian state recognizes and guarantees respect for the dignity of the conceived child, as well as its right to life, individual identity, mental and physical integrity, as well as to freely develop in the womb [i.e., without external interference].”

Article 5 of the law, referring to the “rights of the pregnant mother,” establishes that “the state guarantees the pregnant mother's access to health, as well as the information required for health care and nutrition of the conceived child during the gestational process.”

The final Article 6 states that “in situations of high medical risk, in which the life of the mother and the conceived child is endangered, health professionals are obliged to inform [the patient] of the diagnosis, treatment, and effects of these on the health and development of the pregnant woman and the conceived child.”

“In the event that the treatment endangers the life of any of these,” the article continues, “it is up to the mother or spouse, cohabiting partner, or relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity and first degree of affinity, to decide regarding the medical actions to be carried out.”

More Strickland drama

https://old.reddit.com/r/Catholicism/comments/17tptg2/exclusive_bishop_joseph_strickland_breaks_his?sort=controversial

i don't fully understand what's going on here but a lot of people are angry. There seem to be a few different types of comments:

Type 1: Strickland is a sede

Type II: Why didn't Francis fire the Germans?

Type III: Strickland is based and redpilled

Type IV: Something something Trump

All in all I recommend reading through all this.

Question about the resurrection of Jesus Christ

Greetings all. I have but one question - was Jesus decayed when he arose after the third day. He was not in a freezer. The body was kept in a tomb, and while they may have been able to preserve his flesh with oils, his organs would have started decaying. My research tells me by day 3 his organs would be useless.

As soon as breathing and blood circulation ceases, decomposition begins. An acidic environment is created which begins to rupture and destroy cells. Internal organs begin to decompose and muscles begin to stiffen after three to six hours. Muscles stiffen to their peak at about 12 hours. At this point blisters appear on internal organs an on the skin, sometimes providing a sheen on the skin. By three days, internal organs have decomposed.

https://www.faresjradel.com/the-stages-of-human-decomposition

When Jesus was resurrected, he still had holes in his hands (and feet? How did he walk?) so we know his body wasn't repaired. So what's going on here? The Jesus they saw would look entirely dead and decomposed if he had returned to the same body that had been sitting in a tomb for 3 days.
