Technology: where did it all go wrong?

It was always bad, there just used to be cause for hope.

The tech world has always been cursed.

Do you remember when official rumor spread through the Tech World that "Don't be evil" was part of some corporate minutes somewhere in Google-land?

Did you buy the propaganda? Did you believe Google would be a force for good?

I didn't but only because I read enough about corporations to know they were essentially the living arm of the devil we know. Yes I mean to say the corporation is the means by which the devil drives us to destruction; can you dispute me?

The things that companies put in their internal slideshows are aspirational. The reliable fact is that the corporation would leech the life from everything it touched.

Do the math, you end up here, not surprised that Google has since become this dystopic felbeast let loose upon the world like something between a Titan and a divine force. The offensive thing about Google is that it attempts to become god by approximating omniscience. This is a barbaric temptation to which they have succumbed. Understandable, very human.

But what I mean is still: the corporations claim to be God already, why then do people fret about an AI God? It makes no sense.

Anyway a whole bunch of new rich people were minted out of Google. They entered the long game. This is the end of a round in the long game.

I wonder how they did?

I wonder how many companies are worthless?

A lot. The reaper comes.

It's not a bad system, these tides. As these systems go. Capitalism has its soft side. (It also has teeth. True capitalism has never been tried. If we're lucky they won't bail the things out this time, though of course they will. Let the corporations succumb to flame. It's the American way.)

By the time middle america hears about the stock market, that's the easy money entering the casino, heats it up nice and good. At this point the smart players in the long game make their exit or place their bets. The losers become poor. It's a fun game!

Anyway just here to pour another one out for hope. Because back then while Google was already BigCo, you still had Wikipedia and Twitter was doin something fancy in the Middle East. Our generation had entered the workforce and it was time to make things work the way they should.

To believe in a brighter, more free future that the Internet would bring us.

Haiku is gradually getting more support for more devices. I'm considering setting Haiku up in a VM and fiddling around and porting random shit for fun. Might port SDL2 or something over to it natively and ship it a patch to the SDL2 devs

P-HAR: Porn Human Action Recognition :marseycoomer:

https://github.com/rlleshi/phar

:#marseycoomer:

This is just a fun, side-project to see how State-of-the-art (SOTA) Human Action Recognition (HAR) models fare in the pornographic domain. HAR is a relatively new, active field of research in the deep learning domain, its goal being the identification of human actions from various input streams (e.g. video or sensor).

The pornography domain is interesting from a technical perspective because of its inherent difficulties. Light variations, occlusions, and a tremendous variations of different camera angles and filming techniques (POV, dedicated camera person) make position (action) recognition hard. We can have two identical positions (actions) and yet be captured in such a different camera perspective to entirely confuse the model in its predictions.

This repository uses three different input streams in order to get the best possible results: rgb frames, human skeleton, and audio. Correspondingly three different models are trained on these input streams and their results are merged through late fusion.

The best current accuracy reached by this multi-model model currently is 75.64%, which is promising considering the small training set. This result will be improved in the future.

The models work on spatio-temporal data, meaning that they processes video clips rather than single images (miles-deep is using single images for example). This is an inherently superior way of performing action recognition.

Currently, 17 actions are supported. You can find the complete list here. More data would be needed to further improve the models (help is welcomed). Read on for more information!

Motivation & Usages

The idea behind this project is to try and apply the latest deep learning techniques (i.e. human action recognition) in the pornographic domain.

Once we have detailed information about the kind of actions/positions that are happening in a video a number of uses-cases can apply:

Improving the recommender system

Automatic tag generator

Automatic timestamp generator (when does an action start and finish)

Cutting content out (for example non-sexual content)

Big fat nerd talks with chatbot. Gets fired.

Non-paywall link: https://archive.ph/Bqpc5

Before he was cut off from access to his Google account Monday, Lemoine sent a message to a 200-person Google mailing list on machine learning with the subject “LaMDA is sentient.”

He ended the message: “LaMDA is a sweet kid who just wants to help the world be a better place for all of us. Please take care of it well in my absence.”

No one responded.

AOL 3.0 Reverse Engineered in TempleOS :marseyhacker2::marseyschizotwitch:

:#marseyschizotwitchpat:

A programmer named Alec just RE'd the RE of AOL 3.0 in HolyC and brought AOL to TempleOS, an operating system written single-handedly by Terry Davis; a now deceased schizophrenic programmer famous for his eccentric behavior and rants. It's unusual to run into a skillful HolyC programmer, but Alec is definitely one of them.

Here's his source code: https://git.checksum.fail/alec/TOL.

I chatted with Alec and asked him a few questions. Alec works in IT. He's been programming in HolyC for TempleOS since 2016. One of his goals is to make TempleOS his daily driver, he's been working on a web browser in HolyC, and when he heard about Re-AOL he "knew what had to be done." His favorite Terry Davis quote is "Don't prepare your words." When asked what he hopes to gain out of the Re-AOL project, he replied "The enjoyment of reverse-engineering a protocol I have no prior technical experience with."

Here's a video demonstration. Watch it in at least 720P:

Major props to Alec for accomplishing this. Join us in our Groomercord and give him a shoutout. You can also join us to Sign On AOL 3.0 here in 2022 in the regular old school Windows client. We recently reverse engineered AOL 3.0 for nostalgia nerds to enjoy. I hope you have fun with what we've all accomplished; very much including what Alec has accomplished here.

What browser should you use?

For me, it's the BRAVE BROWSER. The best internet browser. I even download the BRAVE BROWSER on my phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop because the BRAVE BROWSER DEVELOPMENT TEAM is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for 3 ads to be blocked and they blocked three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly BRAVE worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the BRAVE BROWSER greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS blocks every ad, cookie, and tracker. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere with my BRAVE BROWSER, I use it at least 7 times a week for my daily browsing needs which include work, pornography, school, and stalking my whore ex wife on facebook.

I even use my BRAVE BROWSER to browse rdrama, it's amazing! What a great BRAVE BROWSER
