Weekly Anime Post 81 - Carp Seal Of Approval Edition

This one time like 2 years ago my girlfriend got me to watch an anime because apparently there's a horror genre in it, and I still remember its name because it was pretty good. Had a ton of the dogshit anime tropes in it but the zombie ghosts were constantly there and nicely designed

Nier's last ep was mostly anime original and ended with a major deviation from the game story so not even players will know what will happen. Things got interesting. There was also another replicant cameo. Sadly it got delayed AGAIN.

Started watching in/spectre because of the 2nd season though i was rather reluctant to do so because of the poor ratings it got. And tbh i dont get why, its very enjoyable. it definitely had some glaring pacing issues in the final eps and its very dialogue heavy, but its definitely nowhere near as awful as people made it out to be. I really like its reverse mystery aspect

Finished the new Trigun. It was ok but they could've made it a bit better by making Vash actually have agency in the end. At least my girl Milly got a shoutout.

Also finished the Kancolle prequel. Still have no idea what's going on in those episodes. 4/10 for showcasing the Queen Elizabeth and having a decent English VA for her.

Started watching Deltora Quest, which is kiddy but the books were one of my faves as a kid so #nostalgia.

Finally for this week I'm starting The Eminence in Shadow which is probably the exact kind of brainless trash I like, starting Heroes Who Don't Believe in Humanity, and also seeing if Trails of Cold Steel Northern War is decent.

I watched Tomo Chan is a girl. It's a fun show about a tom-girl who learns to accept herself and not cut her huge tits off.

I need to get caught up anime. I didn’t care enough to read subtitles and haven’t had a good week so didn’t watch anything but going to spend the rest of the day catching up

I tire of anime, of the embarrassing tropes that have to be shoehorned into serious shows

Started watching Handyman Saitou in Another World after like a 1 month break from anime. Pretty decent. Probably going to finish Bungou Stray Dogs s4 later this week, which is easily its best season so far.

Revenger finale was pretty good I think. Some originals go of the rails in the final episodes but this stayed on track. It's alt-history but things like outfits(not for the cast but for the normies), buildings and behavior is based on real Edo Japan which is neat I think. I don't usually think about OSTs but in this it was straight smacking. Complete story in 12 episodes.

Going to review the other anime next week when they have finished airing. Please look forward to it.

Stared Farming Isekai, watched half so far. Biggest harem I've ever seen but the MC in't frickmaxxing them yet for some reason.

And since i haven't commented in two weeks i'm gonna talk about the LN I read. So, I actually ended up reading the rest of Reincarnated as a Sword. It does improve after volume 3, that and vol 7 were def the worst. Suffers from power creep and battles going on for too long but there is enough story to make one want to read the next volumes.

Then I read Bored High Elf, I parry everything and Isekai Tensei. Bored high elf was not really my style, it uses the long life of the MC so story arcs that take 10 years get compressed into single chapters (20% ish of the book per chapter). I parry Everything has this oblivious OP mc, that uhhh parry's everything because it's the only thing he can do. Not sure if the humor will hold up for 5+ novels but i'll read vol 2 when it releases. And finally Isekai Tensei is just as generic as the name implies. Super strong MC that jobbers at crucial moments only to power up moments later and and win the fight. Ofc he ends up saving the king of the country from monsters and befriends them by referring to them in casual way. Not going to read more of that for the moment.

Space Dandy is really fun. Everything else in this thread blows.

VOTOMS had a cool story, but the animation was such dogshit. They really didn't give a frick, so I stopped halfway into the first season.

I'm behind on my to watch because of harddrive issues. I am hopefully going to be caught back up this week, and fix my drive issue.

I finished MHA season 6, it was decent

I started, then finished, the Azumanga Daioh Omnibus. I enjoyed it, but the show was much better.

Now I’m reading one of the Skallas books I bought as a joke 2 years ago and The Temple of the Golden Pavilion, which might as well be an anime. The Sailor who fell out of Grace with the Sea was better, at least so far.

I Am the Real One: This one was nice mostly because the antagonist actually has a vested interest in destroying MC’s life beyond just being b-word. Also the main love interest isn’t the crown prince and the chance of the MC secretly being part of the royal family all along is zero so it beats out Hourglass for that alone.

Level 99 something something the title for this one is too long- Protag in this one is such a female autist I love it. Besides that her relationship with the ML is fairly cute and there’s a decent amount of political plotting it’s interesting enough.

Endo and Kobayashi- since this one just got an anime I decided to reread it since I thought maybe they would update faster but I was wrong. I still think the relationship between the two titular characters is the best one.

Roxana- I had the thought that this one is basically in the same tier as other trashy Isekai stuff but with a focus on a female audience and it is really. That said Roxana do be girlbossing.

Redo of healer - I initially read this one when the anime came out and everyone was having an aneurism over it but decided to revisit it after reading Roxana since I wanted more trashy stuff to read. Glad to say the author has finally learned that having le epic protag win every fight effortlessly gets boring after a while so finally the MC is facing some difficulties. At this point though it’s lost its title of edgy revenge fantasy and become a normal fantasy manga with some random s*x scenes thrown in. I still hold the opinion that the dog fricker manga is way worse than this.

Monster- I liked it but I think the author’s newer stuff is better.

Pluto- Still half way through this one but it has that same page turner quality of 20th century boys while also having a bit of philosophical pondering thrown in. The anti-robot KKK was bit on the nose though. Also I had no clue it was an Astroboy spin off until like three chapters in lol.

I am afraid that gin-sensei will reference some modern anime and I will completely miss the joke.
