Also feels like Shinkai is shifting from moid pov stuff(garden of words/Kimi no na wa) to foid centric ones(this one's literal foid wish fulfillment tbh and tenki no ko was too), is it cause foids watch romcoms more or is he

The boy is portrayed as a fricking giga chad that sacrifices an entire city for his love, meanwhile the girl sees herself as nothing more than a pawn of society to be sacrificed for the greater good. In Your Name, Mitsuha and Taki keep swapping bodies, implying duality and partnership, and Mitsuha(girl) is able to convince her dad to evacuate the town which Mitsuha(boy) failed at, making her the hero capable of saving others while Taki is only capable of saving Mitsuha. He couldn't even convince the grandma to run. Good review. Cat wasn't explained well. Doesn't matter, magic. The heavy part was depicting actual anguish over losing someone important well. Haven't seen other Makoto Shinkai, this one was very good.

It's a literal god, you are never going to fully understand the motivation and whimsy of a fricking deity as a human. People who get hung up on the cat are neurodivergent and/or never had a proper religious upbringing/ will go to heck. If you liked Suzume, you'll probably enjoy Your Name and Weathering With You. They're very similar visually and Humanity's relationship with the divine and nature also features heavily in both.
