Ok so I remember Kizuna AI existing for however many years as a bit of an oddity in weeb-spaces, then Projekt Melody happened (!coomers discuss) and caused some drama but still retained as a niche thing, then suddenly Hololive dropped and EVERY weeb got into vtubers and they even got a 4chan board that's now the 3rd-most active board on 4chan. What the FRICK happened? !nooticers !schizos I want to hear your theories. It's an open secret that 4chan is kept alive by funding from anime figurine companies, so my theory is that at some point, some suit realized that Kizuna and Melody were disproportionately popular for how little funding and shilling there is behind them, and convinced the board (whoever it is that owns hololive) to pump a lot of money into this and make it the next big thing, and they told Hiro's handlers to get him in on it, and weebs, being the cattle they are, took the bait.
