Its a running gag, Gintama did this for over 200 episodes, outright nicknaming the character Gori-san as in gorilla, while also making references to him looking like one. They even arrange a marriage between an actual gorilla and him. Japs just really like gorillas.

The funniest thing is how these people equate gorilla and black people and obliviously say the manga is because of Nip racism(not that they aren't), unaware of their own prejudice and premature judgements that lead to these assumptions. There's no reason to equate black people and gorillas.
