Are there any Armored Core animes? Most Japanese mechs like Gundam look goofy. I like that Armored Core looked like industrial mechs in a Japanese style though.
I know that Robotech shared designs with Battletech which was kinda western but idk anything else outside of that.
Is a butchered adaptation of the original Macross, Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber. I know very little about the last series but Macross is solid.
For other bulky slowl mech shows: Armored Trooper Votoms and Armor Hunter Mellowlink. 86 has spider like mechs and is popular. Full Metal Panic is big but may be too gundam like for you. Heavy Object has sphere shaped mechs. Appleseed is more western shaped. Bubblegum Crisis is power suits but great. Patlabor is solid if you don't hate the designs.
That's what I liked about Armored Core, it felt like a middle ground between the two. The speed and humanoid design of Japanese mechs but with the industrial sensibilities of western mechs.

Western and Eastern Mechs are very different.
