16.02.25 - Advice on anatomy appreciated

Ran out of time today, also drew these for a possible gamejam :marseyshy4: submission I considered doing but gave up on when I remembered I really don't have time:

I also found the theme to be a bit lame.

Anyway, how detailed does anatomy need to be to be a proper study? Any good resource recommendations?

this guy is good for anatomy, first the structure and forms, then the work a day simplifications to effectively push them out

typically, i have in mind the major blocks/forms/planes as boxes or elipses then if i really want to get the detailing look up a reference.

so when drawing, not really studying: neck and head: maybe 10 to 15 to 20 forms/planes, not including the eyes

arms and legs : 5 or 6 muscle/bone groups each

torso: maybe 5 for back and front each,

hands and feet: too many to remember, i always look at my hands but maybe 15-16

if youre studying, get a good picture and try to pick out the forms and how you would draw them, large scale to small scale, then do it. memorizing the individual muscles is whatever at this stage, (i think bridgman was famed for being to pick out each muscle you drew wrong). you can follow micheal hamptoms figure drawing for a more detailed breakdown, especially on rhythm and gesture. bridgmans anatomy is beautiful but advanced.
