I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist, but I think there's a difference between having narcissistic traits and having Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The current DSM lists the following as the diagnostic criteria for NPD, and you need 5 out of 9 to be diagnosed:

Everyone has, to some extent, tendencies towards narcissism, sadism, sociopathy. Everyone experiences schadenfreude and everyone has a self-preservation impulse — these don't make someone Dark Triad disordered.
