It may help to define the types of adversarial discourse that people engage in. You get :

DH0, "Name Calling";

DH1, "ad hominem";

DH2, "criticising the tone";

DH3, "Flat contradiction";

DH4, "Counterargument";

DH5, "refutation"; and

DH6, "refuting the central point".

Men can all agree that DH0 has no value in settling an argument; they are just signifiers of emotional state.

DH1 is simply a (faulty) appeal to decide the argument through establishing social rank.

DH2, Criticising the Tone of the argument, is simply a signifier that the respondent has taken offense — or is trying to derail an argument. It includes Gaslighting and is a form of Changing the Subject.

DH3 is simply a challenge — it is a declaration of position. It isn't a settlement of an argument; it is the beginning of one.

DH4 is playing out the "hand" — setting out cards, and elaborating on one's position. It demonstrates confidence in the position — or a lack of confidence.

DH5 and DH6 are, respectively, persuading an audience and making a locked-air-tight justification that the other person's position is not tenable.

Men use this model in social challenges in order to establish social dominance. Most men recognise DH0-DH2 as simply trolling — a bunch of noise, or, at best, a Wikipedia entry.

DH3 and DH4 are seen by men as social, and make up the vast majority of "debate" in forums.

DH5 and DH6 are the things that get gilded — because someone demonstrated dominance of a subject by putting it forth persuasively and convincingly.

For women, and sometimes for men, DH5 and DH6 are the stages where stalking steps in. Someone — usually male, sometimes female — is invested in the social adversarial game being played out, to the point of needing to demonstrate dominance, that they begin trying to push the other person into submission.

This is the possible end-point of adversarial social-pecking-order-determining discourse on the Internet, for women: that it escalates to the point of someone transgressing social standards to show up on their doorstep to "win an argument".

Moreover, while men feel comfortable in this social dance, and use it to practice social hierarchies, women see it as valueless — because it doesn't actually establish their social order, it doesn't establish their sense of social hierarchy, the challenges are rarely escalated above the level of DH2 once the challenger knows they are female (they will get mansplained to, not engaged as an equal), and there is no payoff for them.

So all of this adversarial discourse — from experience of the way they are treated — is worthless to them in "mixed" company.

They are more likely to make their arguments to academia, where there is a sense of social equity, or to their established social circle — rather than to the public, which will inevitably draw bullshit noise they don't need.

That is why women are more likely to be upset by online harassment.

If the FBI can prove he listened to Jones and that Jones' / the other dude's "Yeah that would be the best scenario if Trump got assassinated" segment induced him to plan and set in motion the assassination attempt?

Jones (and the other dude) will spend the rest of his life in jail. No jury would fail to convict him.

The event that showed the country that there's a small, extremist group at war with everyone else was Jan 6 2021. That made it clear. The extent of their power and reach was made clear by the Dobbs decision repealing Roe v Wade, and then many more SCOTUS decisions that ignored stare decisis, along with Thomas taking huge amounts of "gifts" from the group leading the war - Harlan Crow, Leonardo Leo, the Heritage foundation developing Project 2025 for Trump, etc.

Whether the shooter was a "staunch conservative" … kinda? Kinda remains to be seen.

There's a difference between "I think Donald Trump is going to make eat shit: liberals, LGBTQ, girls who won't date me, & that kid who keeps wrecking the curve", vs McCain style staunch conservatives, who just wanted foreign poor brown people to eat shit.

Trump is a symptom of fascism. The Republican party has allied with and flirted with theofascism for 70 years; the violent extremism they've courted has a price.

The immediate (manufactured) narrative was that he must have been "a leftist", because maintaining a facade that the Conservative / Right wing is coherent and united is an important rhetorical pillar.

The motives of people pushing for stochastic terrorism include kicking off a general civil war, with Republican / white identity extremist gun nuts murdering anyone they want, and general race war between whites vs everyone else.

They believe they can induce it to happen through online radicalisation.

There's strong evidence that is a motive behind Musk's acquisition / operation of Twitter.

No, what's weird is that 80%+ of the justification for doing so is that they can be used to staunch gunshot wounds.

Kids being taught to improv field dressings, because acting to keep mass murder cowtools out of the hands of violent extremists & the emotionally disturbed, is "unconstitutional".

It's really heartening that the "civil war is inevitable" violent radicalisation attempts — sponsored by Russia and terrorist extremists — aren't working to break the country.

I'm officially waiting for the results of the FBI investigation before taking a position, there,

But —

Yeah, dollars to doughnuts the shooter was a far right / white identity extremist radicalised online; he copied an element of the Klebold/Harris (Columbine) shooting incident, and there's a lot of neoNazis & White Identity Extremists who are angry that Trump supports Israel and "let" his daughter marry into Judaism as a faith & doesn't plan to build gas chambers for Jews.

There was also motive for pretty much every other long term Republican politician to want him out of the way; he took over the party and is sinking it, and their careers. The attempt happened before he was the official candidate. If he was out of the way they could have nominated anyone at all, used the incident as a reichstag incident, and taken the White House.

I just don't have any connecting blocks between the shooter & a patron, but given how most of his social media history is apparently entirely on Telegram / Signal / the dark web, it's a case of Absence of Evidence everywhere.

Which is why we have to wait for the results of an investigation.

The "yellow-blue" does that for me - I can watch which eye's signal "wins" out in perception as it washes across my visual field.

The "red-green", however, makes a well-synthesised orange or a brown for me.

The early books are better with the hindsight of the later books.

And of course it's neat to find one of the 1980's printings that have … interesting … artifacts of the era embedded in them

They're not looking for the best and brightest; they're asking people to be simultaneously on the radar of the FBI, DHS, DoS, run the risk of being nabbed for being an unregistered foreign agent, listed as a FTO entity, sued, prosecuted, all property used in the commission of crimes seized or frozen …

It serves as a kind of 419 scam filter. Anyone with enough social ties and support to compromise this kind of thing by talking about it, wouldn't be tempted. Desperate angry young men with no aspirations for the future — ding ding ding

These kinds of recruitment offers are inducement to do it as a "second job" kind of role. He wants someone with visible means of support and a steady job, etc. preferably one that gives them a reason to go "camping" on the weekends without cellphones
