Michael Tae Sweeney (@mtsw.bsky.social):
a repeated lesson is that the key to a usable online space is heavy-handed moderation geared specifically around kicking out buttholes.
Michael Tae Sweeney (@mtsw.bsky.social):
the best internet forum i was ever on was the forum for the illegal bittorrent music tracker oink, which worked because of strict moderation and because obtaining an invitation to the site was moderately difficult so no one wanted to risk their valuable account testing them.
Silly B Man (@lawnerd.bsky.social):
I think getting rid of invite codes was a bad idea. Invite codes would allow the site to draw maps of buttholes
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Unfortunately, there is a case of "people indiscriminately publicly posting invite codes b/c they're clueless", a case of "people " " " " " b/c they're anarchists", a case of "people " " " " " b/c they're chaos agents", etc & all are algorithmically indistinguishable
Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):
Invite codes weren't meant to sweep cases 1 & 2. They still did. So the utility of them was nerfed.
