Matthew Cortland (they) (@matthewcort.land):
The most recent time a health insurer tried to kill me was 2013 (CareFirst, if it matters)
I had to fight them while incredibly sick; bc the policy was regulated by Maryland, I filed this complaint with the Maryland Insurance Administration
You're probably not a better healthcare lawyer than I am
Matthew Cortland (they) (@matthewcort.land):
This? This is two years of public health grad school, three years of law school, and a decade of practice as a health care lawyer.
Matthew Cortland (they) (@matthewcort.land):
I'm sure you have the time and money to do five years of grad school, right? To get to a place where you could think about starting to write something like this when a health insurer tries to kill you?
Matthew Cortland (they) (@matthewcort.land):
This conduct is so atrocious it goes far beyond bad faith. The mendacity and deception insurers routinely employ to kill chronically ill and disabled people is a particularly revolting kind of mass murder. If you don't see this ⤵️ as murder when it happens to anyone who isn't a, eg, lawyer why not?
Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):
What a nightmare.
You proved that you could bring public political pressure exposing their malfeasance, that you had expertise in navigating the system, and that the treatment was longstanding, typical, and absolutely medically necessary — and they still tried to deny the treatment. FFS.
