Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

I grew up in Italy during the Years of Lead; my family had to keep go-bag suitcases packed and in the entry closet because of the Brigate Rossi. That's my calibration for "too far left".

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

America has never seen a significant mass political leftist movement in its entire history, not even once. There are no far left politicians here. Anyone who gets elected to US Congress is a moderate and popular centrist to populist extreme right.

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

Fox News has cooked many thousands of pounds of human brain matter in vivo

Stuart John Atkinson (@stuartjatkinson.bsky.social):

Ah always great to find people with this sort of experience. What do you think to the anarchist idea that left/right describe hierarchy, that Marxist/Lenonists doing that means they're just auth-right with another group at the top?

How much of "I'm left wing" can be true if the result is the same?

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

I never liked a 2 axis 2-d political compass, as an oversimplification. I tend to think that a more important axis is "tolerance <-> violence", and ML's are fairly far towards the violent end on that. I don't think they're auth or right; I think they're never emerging from a violent revolution phase

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

In theory, Communism could be anti authoritarian and highly collectivist, it's merely a fact that beyond certain scales of delegation, accountability breaks down, no matter the governmental ideal organisation, and we don't have a way to grapple with that effectively yet

Stuart John Atkinson (@stuartjatkinson.bsky.social):

I agree. For me anarchism needs a better naming convention when you look at first principles all states require monopoly of violence it's about balancing enough of the authority and heirarchy that the threat removes the concept of it being an individuals option without needing to actually use it.

Stuart John Atkinson (@stuartjatkinson.bsky.social):

I think technocracy is the way forward. Look at the reception of surgical doctors, literally the act of cutting people open for the purpose of healing is the best example of how there is no such thing as a deontological "good" way to do things. There are limited controlled harms in most things.

Stuart John Atkinson (@stuartjatkinson.bsky.social):

So society needs to be structured such that people who know enough about the world devolve collected power to the people actually affected by it. Systems of healthcare, farming, supply chains all have these elements post-industrialisation but career politicians or mobs pretend to have those skills

Stuart John Atkinson (@stuartjatkinson.bsky.social):

Although this can lead to the libertarian free market free speech arguments which also need to be handled more like scalpels but instead we're at a stage where they're used like trepanning.

Stuart John Atkinson (@stuartjatkinson.bsky.social):

But yeah to stop rambling I agree with what you said it's absurd to be in an era of so little movement except a lazy drift to repeating right wing everything from last century people are talking as if there are huge waves of revolution. The construction of the overton window in America is crazy.

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

Far from rambling! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
