OK so, I want to talk for a moment about positive knowledge, information, ignorance, and being uninformed.
To do this, I want to use a concrete example.
Let's say that someone randomly tells me that:
John Q Smith lives at 100 Main Street Anytown Kansas 22222
This is information.

No matter how many times this is repeated by the stranger to people around me, no matter how many times they then repeat it, it's still just information.
Let's say I get a database record from an authority that says that JQS lives at that address.
This is knowledge.

Let's say that the person who told me & 200 of the people around me that JQS lives at that address, deliberately misinformed all of us, and that address is in fact a police sting, and the information being repeated by many and sundry is mis/disinformation.
This is complex —

To all of us, the address / name combo is misinformation.
The originator deployed disinformation.
The originator gained knowledge from this - that everyone who repeated that JQS lives at that address, has a specific motive to repeat it.

And to a grand jury, a jury, a judge, the press, etc etc etc — because this combination of information isn't knowledge, but a memetic signature connected to a specific coordinated effort to inform people that JQS lives at that address — it's more likely they will see it as evidence of a conspiracy.
