Document. Everything. Every. Single. Thing.
Always have 2 or more people who can testify where you were, what you were doing, at any given time, and to your character.

The thing about volunteers is that volunteers are, legally and functionally, arm's-length third parties. Any assistance wikimedia can offer them has to be offered on a neutral, consistent basis to all volunteer editors.
