I appreciate the opportunity to explain why we voted to print the mean-spirited, unconstitutional and time-wasting same-s*x marriage ban resolution today. Unless this resolution is printed, it won't get a public hearing.

As the two lone Democrats on the committee, we did not have the numbers to kill it outright, which would certainly have been our preference.

Voting to print the bill means we have the chance to debate it, challenge it, and vote against it on the record with our colleagues.

As members of a superminority that often can't get our bills heard, we support everyone having the ability to discuss these issues through the democratic process. We expect the same respect in return from our GOP colleagues and want to have our issues heard in committee as well.
