Seeking to ensconce myself in local trans community as a supposed enclave of safety burned me so bad. You can all too easily find yourself at the (lack of) mercy of someone else's power off the faulty assumption that people who are like you are necessarily going to hate the idea of hurting you.

There's a few elephants in the room regarding highly isolated people who end up isolationist as a defense mechanism.

One of those elephants is that forming a group identity entirely founded on being beseiged and never trusting anyone not like you leaves you ... paradoxically vulnerable.
