Also… we know "dinosaurs" as we knew them in the 90s technically never existed, right???

(@cocoisgold.bsky.social):

Pls explain

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

The rules paleontologists followed to reconstruct dinosaurs - muscles, fat, skin, feathers (and lack thereof) - produced dinosaur reconstructions that look a lot like Jurassic Park, but later evidence shows they look more like turkeys and ostriches and Big Bird and etc

(@cocoisgold.bsky.social):

So wth happened? People were just making it up?? 😩😩😩😩😩

So birds were the real dinos all along 💀

the visuals (@aleekyat1.bsky.social):

Yup I think that's why them NYC pigeons be rude af fly around going WE USED TO BE DINOSAURS!!

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

Tiny Brontosaurus (@tinybronto.bsky.social):

that is really overstated and in any case would only apply to avian dinosaurs. there's no evidence that most dinos were fully feathered like modern birds. some of them may have had quills or protofeather patches, but imagining giant chickens is just as wrong as shrink-wrapped nudist dinos

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

the last time I read the literature on it was 1998? and then I had a bunch of other stuff happen,so I'm grateful for more info!

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

They were working with the best info / knowledge they had at the time; fat & muscle doesn't fossilise & skin & feathers often don't, either. They have to examine where tendons connect to bone to deduce what the muscles were like.

But yeah, modern birds are descended from dinosaurs
