The piece was bullshit, & once I read it, it was clear to me: a pretext to the Trump admin attacking those subreddits, moderators, & audiences as terrorists

I knew it was bullshit because the author led her story by identifying a subreddit I had tracked as involved in the /r/the_donald ecosystem — run by a savvy, mask-on antisemitic White Identity Extremist who had years before explicitly praised the ME conflict for dividing non-whites — as Palestinian

It's a sad reality that online services can only prohibit the use of the service to convey speech that promotes hatred & violence, but not prohibit the use of the service by Nazis with a drop of self control and foresight and guile — nor by hacks ginning up political hit jobs and just-so stories
