The funniest part is they'd have won easily if they hadn't completely alienated the Rajputs by chimping out in their states. Rajputs were the most pro Maraturd faction in the Mughal court too it'd have cost them little to keep the raids contained to Malwa, Gujarat and the Gangetic valley and leave the in any case impoverished Rajputana alone. :marseydeadinside3:

Yes, they unironically got too cocky, kek. That being said, its effects I feel are a tad too overblown. It lead to the rise of Nana Fadnavis and Mahadji Shinde (considered some of the best Maratha leaders) and they recovered most of their losses in the North. I just think the yearly teary eyed reminiscence is a bit too much.

What's wrong with the Marathas?

They just never tried to actually build a sustainable state they started out as raiders and that's all they aspired to except for a few visionary leaders who were unable to change things in the long run. Mughals(or well Akbar) realized that coopting the Rajput princes was far more profitable than endlessly fighting them as the Sultans had done but Marathas who'd have had a far easier time allying them being Hindus thought they'd fight them, the Afghans, the Turks and every other faction in India single handed.
