I doubt the Pakis were trying to attack an army base or even score air kills, that would demand further escalation(regardless of you believe its in retaliation for bombing a terror camp per our claims or bombing a forest per theirs) if it succeeded and their whole plan seemed to be to equalize the score, a jet shot down on their side of the border doesn't have quiet the same connotations as one shot down on our side. Combined with them unilaterally returning the pilot.

Pakis basically won even beyond their most optimistic expectations out of the whole thing. The shot an Indian fighter jet, took a pilot hostage, made a whole show of it without even risking any major escalation.

Yes, they scored a kill, and Indians launched a missile into Pakistan and then informed they had launched a missile into Pakistan by mistake. Pakistan had no fricking idea about it. Are we talking about the same nation ?
