My mother went to Pakistan a couple of months ago and went using wheelchair assistance due to old age. They parked her in one spot and wouldn't let her go until she paid a bribe. Needless to say, she won't be going back any time soon.

I had a porter follow my dad to the car as he was taking the trolley bag. Didn't say a word. When my dad lifted the bag into the trunk the fricker lunged to basically touch the bag before it went completely in as an attempt to show he helped lift it
I was flying out from Karachi in 2019, and the customs/passport control guy sat me to the side (I was flying on my canadian passport). kept me there for 20 minutes before I asked what was going on. he radio’d his supervisor, who came over and took pictures of the inside of my passport with his personal phone(!!!!!), and they let me go on my merry way.

I bought an entire desktop PC along with a 27" monitor from burgerland when I was moving back. The customs guy was surprised to see a full desktop with CASE in one suitcase and a monitor in other. He asked me "wtf is this?! do you have any customs clearance?" or something on those lines. I said to him i had nothing, im moving from us to india and brought my stuff. he was confused still and then let me go after checking everything, gave him a $20 us note and he was happy.

My mother told me the hardest part in shutting down bribery when she handled pensions was the pensioners themselves. They shuttled out the corrupt clerks, randomized files every morning and explicitly told them not to give people money but they still persisted, hunting that clerk down in a different office to bribe him for work that'd be done anyway. Back in those days when they got maybe 500 rupees pension the clerk took 50 pax lol.

I didn't voluntarily give him, he was hinting at me to bribe him. saying things like "this will take lot of time, we can do it faster if you know.. etc etc" so I said I just have this $20 on me you can have it and he was happy with that but this was like 9 years ago (same desktop I am still using btw)
