India has probably the most cost effective car industry, bar maybe China. 30% of that price is taxes, car makers are basically constantly fighting to keep cars affordable as gobarmint keeps piling taxes and cesses on top.
My father bought a new car for around that range,base price was 5 lakh and with road tax and everything factored in it came to 7.

The taxes on cars are truly asinine. Buying luxury (or even mid-budget) cars here is as good as burning cash because all of that will either be pocketed or spent as gibs.

You pay lakhs in road tax but every since intercity road has a toll booth at this point, charging half what you'll spend on fuel for a hatchback. I've seen two lane state highways with potholes charging 1.5rs/km, makes you want to fedpost. Fuel itself is taxed at 100% too.

If I got a new car for free I'd be pretty happy, IDK what this strag's problem is. I think our 15 year old car needed under a lakh in maintenance throughout its life and here this strag blew 45k on a 3 year old car with potentially many issues down the line.
