There is never a time when I am not glad to be American but there are definitely times when I appreciate it more.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as American, is in fact, Western, or as I've recently taken to calling it, the West plus USA.

My parents tried putting me in one of these shitholes for intermediate. On day 3 I told them to come pick me up or I'm walking all the way back home (about 20 km).

Based, frick ur cheapskate parents for that one

Not cheap, just totally clueless about the conditions of these places. Once they came to pick me up, I gave them a quick real tour of the joint and they couldn't wait to gfto asap.

That's the problem. Indian parents are too trusting of educational institutions, thinking they're some sort of dharmic entities imparting wisdom, instead of the cutthroat businesses that they are.

Did they get worse? My room though it was 3ppl in a tiny 12x12 room was not this bad. It was very clean compared to this. It was basically a 2 sharing room but they put a bunk bed on side to allow two students on one side. There was room shortage back then and it was onky first year then we got separate rooms from 2nd year onwards.

Edit we had a table on both sides and we used to keep our desktops on that. No ac of course but we fricked off home in Delhi summer anyway. Also the pics don't look like iitd rooms

>Bunk bed

:marseyemojirofl:

They have you in there like cattle holy shit. I thought my UG place was bad but even there we didn't have bunk beds. You didn't have a ceiling fan? Bunk beds are OK in cold places not like ours lol. The second pic is IIT bombay I think.

yeah lol, when I first saw the room my heart dropped. I was like how can an IIT hostel be this bad!? I almost cried but my dad kinda calmed me down. We had one ceiling fan lol which was right above the divider wall and since I was in the lower bunk it was practically non existent but we were allowed to take table fans from the hostel and use them so that was ok I guess?

This is why we were mostly in the library/computer lab/reading rooms (which were all AC) most of the time and only came back to hostel when were just on the verge of crashing

Do they hate their students or something?

Best places can afford it, its just suffering builds character nonsense. My dorms weren't as bad but maintenance was terrible, bits off the wall would literally slough off and expose the rebar beneath lmao but our faculty buildings were perfectly fine, massive air conditioned library. There's just very little students can do aside from leaving and cause mine was basically free in the middle of the capital most chose to stick it out. There was actually a waiting list for those rooms lol, you got priority based on a points system.

Its completely pointless, his son won't be doing odd jobs and doesn't need to mix with the sorts who do odd jobs or live like them for even one moment and if he wasn't an r-slur he'd realise how dangerous things would be if someone realised his identity(obvious he's from affluent class from his looks I assume) among that class but this is passed off as great wisdom among our fathers.

Burger dorms are decent tho. Both my cousins there had private rooms right from UG level. I once shared a room with eight guys. You don't get one moment alone. :marseyschizotwitch: I started going off into a bit of forest on the railtracks and sitting by a pond just to be alone in those months.
