Indians vote for literal criminals because they are more likely steal money from the government to give to voters

https://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2024/06/haan-goonda-hai-magar-hamara-goonda-hai.html

One compelling explanation provided by political scientist Milan Vaishnav is that voters often care less about their represntative's ability to deliver broad-based development or draft good laws, and more about the effectiveness at helping them access limited stated resources. So, a corrupt or crime-accused politician may be seen as effective because he can deliver benefits for his community.

…Colloquially, voters are known to say: Haan, goonda hai, magar hamara goonda hai (Yes, he is a gangster, but he is our gangster.)

My favorite Marginal Revolution commenter is that one guy who makes dozens of accounts to post unrelated anti-Chinese racism and stream of conscious rants in the comments. I'm pretty sure he's the same guy who likes to beg for money

Jamal? He's funny because he collects so many downvotes. Never encountered the anti-Chinese ranter. Sure and rayward are pretty r-slurred, so I like to laugh at them and be rude in general. I've got nothing but snark to contribute.
