It was probably only thing that prevented a Cummunist revolution here lol. Its an interesting thing I've often wondered about the Bengal famine. It wasn't like there was a material shortage of food for everyone. Shops were running, even sweet shops and stuff like that. These people dying mostly came to the city to try to beg for whatever they could. Why did they never storm the markets? Could police have really stopped that many? Even now when I see vids from refugee camps I see people taking food in get mobbed. By people who aren't literally starving to death. But my grandmother used to handout leftovers from their house near the train station and never talked about getting mobbed similarly.
