Do not underestimate India's real estate market. This mansion in Dallas, TX and this 2BHK flat in Mumbai's outskirts both cost the same.

I learned a few months back that I could buy a 3 storey house in one of Kolkata's satellite cities(90 min by train). It made me feel a bit better but yeah cities are a mess.

That Dallas mansion comes with yearly property tax around 2x the average Indian's wages. The lack of a property tax has allowed Indian real estate values to get completely divorced from what people in the area earn.

4 lakh huh. Yeah that'd hurt lol. But that Dallas mansion has access to services that actually justify that tax. There's people paying 10L for kids' school a year in Delhi/Mum, if there were local govt schools good enough for them they'd be happy to pay the tax I suppose. Aside from hospitals, police, roads and all that.
