I'm not super well versed in this kind of critical theory r-sluration but I think the "whiteness" they're talking about is stuff like the Smithsonian infographic where it's pretty much defined as... western culture as we know it.

"Whiteness" as used here is the world's least clever motte-and-bailey, where only the elect see the motte that it's some universal trait that needn't be tied to your actual skin color and in principle anyone could have and outsiders simply see the bailey that it's the trait of having white skin.
