Farmers who weren't impoverished sharecroppers were could often be moderately wealthy, and this is the source of much resentment from clueless urbanites that think that farming is a free money generator that doesn't need support from the government. It's becoming a more common take now because the white collar wagecucks overestimate their own intelligence and knowledge of how the world works.
