In Canada it's a whole different tract starting in grade 4 that you need to pass 3 different cognitive abilities standardized tests to be placed in it then also perform if you are to stay in it until the end of highschool. The most ridiculous white women in the world teach these classes
You spend over a decade in school. Each year multiple classes have some kind of "gifted" set. Each set has multiple slots and a good chunk of your 30ish competitors dgaf. Statistically speaking, any slightly nerdy kid would have to be a bona fide r-slur to not be '''gifted''' at some point.
That's not how it was for me. In grade 4 everyone in Ontario takes the Otis Lennon test, a few in the school move on to take the Ross test then even fewer take the Wisc test.
If you pass the third you have the option to go to a completely new school unless you already go to the one with the program and are in the same class of like 20 kids a quarter of which are spergs for the rest of elementary school.
I was not moved on to the continued high school program after grade 8 and almost all these kids in my class from grades 4 to 8 other than the too neurodivergent types are doing great things.
Me and my best friend are by far the least successful from that program but the majority do well so I never buy the shit I see on reddit. For me I think I peaked in like grade 4 then people caught up and for whatever reason I was ahead at a younger age.

Most these reddit gifted kids were never even taken to a new school to be in the gifted tract so I don't know what they base their claim of gifted on.

"I was in honors classes" (wasn't completely r-slurred and actually attended class at least most of the time"

I've read every HP book in the series... That has to count for something.

On Reddit, "gifted" means "peaked in high school" (or even earlier).
