Since our kid came along about 6.5 years ago, I haven't watched a "grown-up" movie from beginning to end and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.
It also feels like everyone got really mad about all movies in the meantime.
Yeah there doesn't seem to have been a "wow" movie in the last 7 years. Dune, Oppenheimer, Everything Everywhere All At Once were worth watching to me though
Barbie was largely awful preachy propaganda that had some unintentionally redeemable aspects to it. It may be above avg for a film made in the last 7 years but far from a "wow"
i would watch a whole movie based on the kens...or at least ryan gosling ken...his seens were the best and only good part about that movie...
which is even funnier because the feminist man hating director wanted to make an empowering female movie but was outshined by the "dumb" male character...
Movies have gotten so sloppified the last decade, trying to find a film worth anything is like being trapped on a raft in a salty sea and dying of thirst
Yeah you're not missing out on anything. Last decade has been absolute shit as far as cinema is concerned. I liked Dune/Dune 2 and the Bladerunner sequel but that's about it

It got boring extremely fast IMO, I really don't get the hype around this and I definitely don't get how it managed to get so many awards

I found it uplifting. It was also the timing, I think we were getting a lot of nihilistic movies and shows then and this one was different
