The primary challenge that persists is that even in the richest countries in the world, people are not satisfied with how much money their jobs make.
That is the primary failing of capitalism, it cannot differentiate between things men want right now and are willing to pay for, and things that are useful for the propagation of the species that the individual will not pay for.
There exists a biological gap space where there exist things that are useful to man that man does not really care for, as a part of his functional biology requires him to be blind to certain truths or observations to be able to function well.
This failing of the species extends into our economic systems resulting in the creation of societies that make human life better year on year but at the same time make it impossible for the species to keep successfully reproducing and prospering.
Capitalism only succeeds when there is a welfare state to cover the bottom. US capitalism is reaching its end point in terms of competency and capability as the consumer market can no longer afford the higher end products produced within the most advanced country in the world. Technological development has outpaced the human ability to afford the product, not due to resource cost of developing the product, but because of ever rising profit margins for the creators of the product, which are reaching a point where those goals can only be reached by outright exploiting the consumer base or forming permanent monopolies.
The rise of China has been the best thing that happened to the planet as it has guaranteed affordable product of a decent quality for all the middle income nations and poor nation states. Even now, as China continues to get richer, their products are still available at an affordable rate for almost the entire world including places like India and Vietnam.
Global competition stabilizes the species and forces the elite to improve the conditions for the populace living under them to remain competitive.
Samsung today remains one of the greatest companies of all time, filling in the space where US products are unaffordable. Thus the global market is separated into two spaces. The first being the product space where the US consumer can afford the product, and the second space where the rest of the world can afford the product.

Any QoL reductions are priced into all transactions already.
Specifically, carbon taxes typically show negligible consumer price impacts because the necessary carbon savings are rather cheap for affected industries. The number of companies that just keep doing things the same way, pay the tax, and pass on the cost to consumers is basically zero because they get their butt handed to them by companies that find ways to dramatically reduce taxable carbon output.

Just look at the cost per gigabyte graph over the decades, and nvidia gpu performance improvements far outpace their price increases. Modern Video games are also 10000x more technically impressive than in the 90s yet they are literally cheaper adjusted for inflation and only in the past few years studios finally started increasing from the $60 price point. Numerous other examples but i wont list them here.
