I bought Lily a cat bed to keep her off my computers

As cute as she is when she falls asleep on my desk, she'd fall asleep on the mouse, keyboard or the laptop. The new cat bed has worked really well.

Yeah. PCB is currently undergoing a design review.

I could spergpost about what I'm doing but 99% of people will find it boring tbh (unless you're a car nut)

Spergpost alert:

Automatic transmission controllers.

I already have an old version working in my daily Commo Ute. It's controlling a 6 speed auto that I pinched from a VE. My Ute originally had a 4 speed.

A new, commercial version is currently in the works. I've developed some transmission, hydraulic and wet clutch models, (maths for that was a PITA) which will be used in real-time to improve the accuracy of my controller (model-based control). I won't go into details about these models tho, as they're my key differentiator. HTG and TurboLamik are very basic compared to this. My controller shows the physics of what's happening; other people just do this pressure for this torque :marseyshitforbrains: and pretend they can't feel their money being ground up inside the gearbox. Ironically, this is easier to tune as it can be reasoned about (although most of it is automated).

Smoothness and integration are my main pursuits, so that drives me to improve the accuracy of my controller. It just so happens that improved accuracy makes them more suitable for motorsport, so I've garnered some interest on Facebook with really crappy videos of the Ute driving around.

Safety is another big thing. I don't want to die driving to the Bottle-o. My day job is electronics for EVs, so I've been certified in automotive functional safety and I'm exposed to some automotive development processes. I'm looking at leaving my job or going to part time, as I'm falling behind schedule, but I have a mortgage to pay so idk.

Support is being expanded to the GM 10L and ZF 8HP transmissions. I have a 10L80 ready to swap into my Ute. Future targets are the ZF/Ford 6 speeds, Porsche PDKs, Getrag/BMW DSGs. Then more on as people request them.

I have to put tricks on them. One of my development benefactors is a team in Yurop. They want Clutch-by-Wire for drifting. Bogans love gear changes that chirp, so I've done demos of that (really not good for the driveline tho).

There's also the financial/commercial aspects of this project, but won't go into them here.

I wanted to get into Street Machine SMOTY but that won't happen as I'll be over age this year rip.

>inb4 just manual swap it

OK this is really cool. I'm a mech eng but my background is auto elec.

I did come up with my own way less technical product, something to do with pop up headlight control using microcontrollers. I tested it on my car, an AE86 and a friends MR2 and it works across Toyota models. I got some insterst online but then adhd kicked in and I lost interest in the project. I should finish that one day :turtoisethinking:

Heck yeah dude this is some good markets to get into. I'm still stuck in 1985 so I have a manual box in my build (AISIN AZ6 6 speed)

Yeah ngl I had no idea what your line of work/background was.

ADHD is a b-word. I've thrown in the towel on this a few times over the years. It wasn't until halfway through last year that I started taking it seriously - I was approached by a few people and came to the realisation that there is a market for it. Before that it was just a hobby.

Let me know if you need any help with it. I'd be happy to pitch in NSA.

So? Manuals are fun. My family doesn't have any manual cars atm so I've got nothing to row the gears in :(

Idk this project has kinda ruined autos for me. I get in other cars and feel their subtle shifting imperfections (although some are really good). Others can't tell, but I've developed a sensitivity to it. I work with some calibration engineers from Holden and Ford, and they've had similar experiences haha.

Speaking of boomer builds, Dad and I have a Holden HR to do up but we're both time poor.

This is a very cool project best of luck with it :marseyexcited:
