The entire capeshit industry is supported sorely by boomer nerds. Wokeshit or not, it's going to die horribly. People need to let series and stories be finished and over. Write new themes, stories, characters, and universes. Not 60-year-old superhero X in the Earth-616 universe with other superheroes, but Y storyline this time. There is no stake, no drama at all

That's because that's how the nerds running it right now want it. The American comic book industry is dead. They refuse to let the world change and grow despite events that should have completely altered the culture and worldview. Half of the Marvel universe remembers being dead and the average New York not only knows aliens exist but has seen one in person. Let the world change in subtle ways. Offscreen Global warming is solved and clean energy is a thing thanks to Superscience!!!
The marvel/dc world is stuck in a status quo because they want to mirror it with our own. I get it. The thing is, they jam so many super-powerful, super-smart scientists, super-engineer heroes into it for decades and make it hard to take it seriously.

That's why I suggested altering it in subtle ways. No one's got a flying car because drunk drivers in three dimensions means 9/11 every day, but you could have them cure certain strains of cancer and household robots like that one Rocky movie. Ask around till you find a comic fan dying of cancer who'd love to have their in-universe equivalent be cured by Dr.Doom or Reed Richards. It's not our world anyway. The American legal system is already warped so far that Texas only has to point to Gotham city to justify executing the mentally ill and the mentally disabled.
