I don't blame science for this one, they've been bullied into compliance.
The reason why trans was removed as a mental illness from the DSM was because trans lobbyists forced it.
Here's some activists arguing that anything transgender or transvestite should be removed from the DSM entirely.
Biology textbooks now make a single sentence saying "sometimes people don't feel that their identity doesn't match their biological s*x" which trans activists use as a way to say "seeeeeee? It's science!" Same reason -- activism and lobbying, not science.
Gender Studies is almost always its own department at universities. It certainly isn't part of the Science Department, and the Social Studies and Humanities Departments won't take them either. They started their own department, whose only export is forcing other departments to conform to them.
