Enjoy your retinue of 20 men with fancy carvings on their halberds when I have ten times more peasants with spears and pikes. Halberds are cool and all but 99% of your army is gonna be dirty peasants and you can't trust them with much more than a pointy stick, the spear is the ultimate weapon because of economics
