I was the same and lived my whole life up until now without ever caring about it until my food made me watch a couple episodes and now I really like it. It has genuine lol moments.
I haven't watched it much, but my dad described it as "What people who never went to Vietnam imagine they would have been like in Vietnam" and that was the most hard-hitting denunciation of a TV show that I'll ever hear in my life.
I do appreciate though that Alan Alda went on Futurama(?) where he was robot, and on his back he had a switch between "slapstick" and "maudlin". I guess he's at least self-aware.

I don't really care for the actual Korean war, but my wife introduced me to the TV show M.A.S.H. recently and I've been really enjoying watching that.

I've seen less than 30 seconds of MASH but it's up its own butt and you're bad for liking it.

Early MASH seasons with Trapper,Frank Burns, and lots of sexual harassment of Hot Lips Hooligan were pretty comfy.
It only got really sappy and insufferable later on

Due to this show I have the unshakeable belief that the Korean countryside looks exactly like the hills outside of LA.
