The same people whining about Reagan shutting down mental institutions are the ones who'd protest any form of involuntary commitment, there's a reason nobody's suggested a better solution in the last 40 years.
There's no way they'd ever support involuntary commitment since these are the people who think the homeless should be free to stab and r*pe whoever.
So they intentionally leave out the details there and make it sound like Reagan somehow shut down every mental health clinic in existence. Except there are still plenty of those around. America's free market principles are precisely what allow people to create them
