Translation of the hungarian article:
The independent candidate from Tát ran with a tattoo of Hitler and a swastika on her back
Edina Soltysiak Soltysiak is standing for local government in the Komárom-Esztergom county municipality on the list of the independent organisation Együtt Közösen Tátért.
According to the independent organisation Együtt Közösen Tátért, those who vote for them are voting for the future, but their local government candidate does not necessarily convey this message.
Although Edina Soltysiak, who was born in Esztergom, says in her introduction that she is interested in innovative developments and renewable energies, you don't have to look too far through her photos on social media to see that she has a different kind of interest.
On her social media page, we find symbols of or references to authoritarianism. The Facebook profile seems to belong to her, as the organisation's candidate for mayor, Dániel Losonczi, mentioned this page when presenting his candidates for the municipality, including Edina Soltysiak. On Facebook, she herself writes that on Instagram she goes by the name devilscat88.
Soltysiak has a lot of tattoos and doesn't hide them so much: on both forearms is the German phrase "Meine Ehre heißt Treue". This means 'My honour is loyalty' in English, and was the motto of the Nazi SS. Even in 2022, she posted a picture showing one half of her arm, but it is also true that as of January 2020, the other half was covered by a half-arm solution. This public photo shows the inscription:
She shows her back relatively rarely, although people usually don't, even though he has a portrait of Hitler on one shoulder blade and a (mirrored) swastika on the other.
The numbers 88 and 14 are printed on the waist. These numerical codes have a special meaning in the neo-Nazi world. The first one refers to the alphabetical letter 8, which stands for HH, or "Heil Hitler". The number 14 refers to an American nationalist racist writing, which in the English original is a 14-word sentence that reads: 'We must ensure the survival of our race and the future of white children'. The tattoos on Soltysiak Edina include an imperial eagle. This screenshot is from her Instagram profile, which has since been made private:
We have also contacted the candidate and her nominating organisation, Együtt Közösen Tátért. We couldn't find any other contact details for the organisation, so we asked them on Facebook if they knew about their candidate's tattoos and, if so, what they thought about it. "First of all, we would like to start by saying that we are not an association. First of all, we would like to start with the following. Our support for each other is only because of the developments and insights we have about Tát. We distance ourselves completely from exclusion and condemnation of people," they said, adding that they did not wish to comment further on the issue.
Edina Soltysiak was asked twice on Facebook about her current relationship with her tattoos. In a reply sent after our article appeared, she informed us that she was withdrawing from the election.
The Hungarian criminal law includes the swastika as a prohibited symbol of authoritarianism, although to be a criminal offence it must be committed in a manner "likely to disturb public peace".
