looks at science and engineering wages in EU & US

Yeah, sure.

Take into account the cost of living. Wages only tell part of the tale.

Cost of living, but also quality of life. Harder to measure life satisfaction than raw income.

Think of it this way: the disposable income of Senior Engineers in the US is sometimes 1 or 2x more than the GROSS salaries of Senior Engineers in Europe. The quality of life in Europe tends to only be higher for low- to middle- wage people, not the sort of people that this post is referencingg.

Sure but I'd still never switch. Take into consideration the work life balance.

In the uk i work 35 hours a week over 4 days and am fully remote. I get 32 days holiday a year and my hours are flexible. I'm currently on a 6 week fully paid sabbatical.

Probably get more holidays in different parts of Europe.

If I was in the US I'd probably be living in the office with 5 days paid leave and working 80 hour weeks. The money at that point isn't worth it imo.

When people compare American salaries they don't often take into account that they're essentially working two jobs with the amount of hours they have.

also dont forget that child care is a lot cheaper in the EU + free universities when they get older.

Euros seem to think that US work culture is like Korea or Japan.

Americans on the good money tend to also have good holiday packages.

I think people overstate how bad vacation and sick time is in America.

I worked a literal wagie retail job for some years and got sick and vacation time even when it was part time. Multiple full timers would take week long cruises ever couple months too, it was a perfectly workable amount for a non-career job.

I will say I was the most reliable employee there, plenty of Reddit brained people seem to use sick time constantly.

Wierd how comparisons between US and Europe are always top 5% earners making worse salary in europe and how thats a bad thing. Never hear anything from the bottom 50%. Probably beacuse their lives would objectivly improve massivly by moving.

Because the bottom 50% isnt going to run away to europe because trump bad

Its not top 5% its professional occupations. Unless you work in the City of London or somewhere similar you're getting rinsed compared to what an American would make. Sucks to be bottom 50% but I don't really care about them tbh.

I work with some Euros and they always complain about how regulations prevent them from really making any progress. The EU regulated itself out of usefulness a long time ago. This is eurocope in its most raw form. Practically radioactive. :marseyradioactive:

Wishful thinking. US doesn't have any white scientists anymore (especially if you don't count Jews as white.) The only ones who would flee to Yuro are 40-year old history adjunct professors trying to escape 6-figure student loan debts. Also disabled unemployed :marseytrain2:s who pretend to be intellectuals on BlueSky. The sort of people we're better off without (though we should get the professors to pay back their debts.)

Who needs white scientists when you have an an endless hoard of SEA interns

Indians aren't SEA. SEA countries are not producing lots of researchers. Just south Asia and China.

Its indians and chinks lol. Anyway firms like Eli lilly and john hopkins announced cuts due to grants. Cuts not of HR people but actual researchers. All these companies still have plenty of hr and recruiters as much as souless boomers like to larp every layoff is just "woke hr" people
