Hot take: producing plus size clothes/expanding a size range is not only a financial gamble (how many quadruple XL people r gonna even buy swimwear considering they probably can't even walk to the fridge anymore much less the beach?) but is also considerably more expensive considering extra material/time and fats deserve nothing. It is stupid to expect companies to conform to your binge eating disorder because you refuse to change.
Howeverrrr, while not being able to find cute clothing in your size is a good motivator to lose weight, it must be miserable to have to exclusively Walmart XXXL sweatpants and swimwear from Torrid so I feel for them. Sue me

when I was thinner I left the mall crying 1ce bc I couldn't find one pair of dress pants that weren't huge on me, so I get how it feels. but really wtf are they supposed to do, continue making clothes up to elephant size? and then someone mammoth size walks in and they're like "wtf why are all these clothes made for twigs,???" in this world of over consumption/production how many pieces per style should a store have made/stocked and what kind of toxic materials/sketchy labour practices will they have to use to make any kind of profit

Yeah as a very tall guy, people often ask me if it's tough to find clothes that fit. I don't complain about it, but yes, it is very hard to find well fitting clothes, specifically shirts.
One time I was roped into this discussion again with new coworkers, and these two huge fat women joined in, as if our problems with finding clothing are remotely comparable. Maybe on a surface level, but it's not my fault that I'm tall and it's impossible for me to get shorter.
These women could just lose a tiny bit of weight and their problems would be completely solved. Also, I've accepted the fact that it's not economical for companies to make clothes for my body type, yet the entitlement of fat chicks prevents them from realizing the same thing. Nobody's oppressing you.

Hanes makes some excellent tall undershirts. Thick and substantial material unlike some thinner ones from other brands. Mizzen and Main are good for dress shirts in their tall sizes. Not the least expensive at MSRP but some hunting can usually find them substantially discounted.

But yeah, not only do they use more fabric, but there's a real overhead to every single size/SKU they produce. Adding a bunch that will sell 1% as much as the normal sized ones isn't a financially wise decision. In fact the ONLY way they'd come out ahead financially is if the backlash against not doing it is substantial enough to really cut into their profits, which I don't think it is.

They sort of do. The bolts of fabric and machinery is standardized and small through like XL or maybe XXL can be cut from the same bolt width. It's just a matter of how much waste is left. A small and an XL actually used the same amount of cloth and cost the same. To do shit for real fatties means a double wide bolt, so there's a price jump up that covers I dunno XXXL to dethfat.

It also doesn't scale uniformly. Like you can't just take a medium and hit 150% to make an extra large. It has to be redesigned to fit around all of the parts that get bigger while some parts remain the same size.
